Mechanical Engineering, B. S.

Students pose with their motorsport carMechanical engineers are engaged in a wide range of activities ranging from fundamental engineering science to the development of specific technologies and systems. The students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Rensselaer learn and practice solving engineering problems, innovate, and target global challenges in a teamwork environment. Mechanical engineering involves the analysis, design and construction of devices, machines and systems that often convert energy from one form to another for the purpose of achieving a desired outcome. Applications include engines of all forms, manufacturing processes, transportation, heating and cooling systems, power production, robotics, medical devices and imaging, as well as most anything which anything which moves.

The Mechanical Engineering program at Rensselaer is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org,  under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Mechanical and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
