Bio: 
Dr. Muhammad Arshad Zahangir Chowdhury joined the Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as a Lecturer in Summer 2023. His Ph.D.  dissertation focused on Machine Learning for Gas Phase Speciation.  During his PhD, Dr. Chowdhury also worked at Argonne National Laboratory at the Data Science and Learning Division, and conducted research on automated intelligent experimentation. His research appeared in Journal of Synchrotron Radiation. Dr. Chowdhury also published multiple journal articles on applications of machine learning for intelligent gas sensing during his PhD which appeared in ACS Sensors, Journal of Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves, and Applied Physics B. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Chowdhury is working towards developing scientific machine learning based computational tools for gas phase speciation, remote sensing, intelligent climate management, and design optimization. During his graduate studies, Dr. Chowdhury received the Bimal K. Malaviya Graduate Teaching Assistant Award, and a university fellowship from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.   Dr. Chowdhury’s current research interests include intelligent automated environmental monitoring, climate change management and mitigation, scientific and applied machine learning, design optimization, energy, sustainability, and combustion. Dr. Chowdhury’s current teaching interests include Elements of Mechanical Design, Machine Learning for Engineering, and Thermal and Fluids Engineering Laboratory.
