Troy, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute today named Shekhar Garde as dean of the School of Engineering. The appointment is effective July 1.

A new protein engineering technique developed at Rensselaer gives researchers a powerful new tool for fighting potentially harmful toxins and pathogens.
Rensselaer was one of 203 research universities invited to participate in the HHMI 2014 “Sustaining Excellence in Science Education for Research Universities Competition,” and is one of only 37 universities to be awarded a grant.
To the 1,613 graduates awarded degrees during the Commencement ceremony, President Shirley Ann Jackson urged courage of their convictions and confidence in their capabilities.
Many graduates will continue their studies after graduation and Rensselaer students in all areas of study, are landing good jobs.
