Jie Lian and Shanbin Shi each received NRC 2022 Research and Development Grants

Two MANE faculty members awarded NRC 2022 Research and Development Grants.  Out of 20 NRC R&D awards, MANE faculty members are PI and co-PI on 2 of them.  Professor Jie Lian was awarded a grant to investigate and develop models of fragmentation behavior in advanced nuclear fuels that can assist the NRC in making risk-informed decisions in licensing new, more efficient fuels for reactor operation.  Professor Shanbin Shi is co-PI on a grant with a collaborator at Virginia Tech (Professor Yang Liu) to advance the current predictive capabilities of annular two-phase flows, which is crucial to manage reactor cooling, and will benefit the nuclear industry and NRC in reactor design, licensing, and regulatory applications.
