The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) ranks in the top 20 departments of its kind nationwide.

Industry-Level Engineering Opportunities: The $500 million PACE gift and innovative O.T. Swanson Multidisciplinary Design Laboratory (MDL) afford undergraduates the opportunity to solve industry-level engineering challenges for clients including GE Energy, Boeing, IBM, and Northrop Grumman.

State of the Art Facilities: Using two new state-of-the-art wind tunnels, a unique 100-MeV linear accelerator (LINAC), and the Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI), undergraduate and graduate students conduct a variety of ground- breaking research—from wind energy to nuclear energy, from nanoscale materials for biomedical applications to complex mechanical systems for next generation aerospace designs, and more.

Research Leadership:

  • Professor Miki Amitay was identified by Boeing in 2008 as the top researcher in flow control.
  • Professor Amir Hirsa’s development of the liquid lens was featured on the cover of Nature Photonics.
