Engineering Faculty Honored at Annual Recognition Dinner

Engineering faculty members were honored with annual recognition awards at the School of Engineering 2015 Faculty Achievement Dinner, held May 12th at Revolution Hall in Troy.
 
The Classroom Excellence Awards were presented by Kurt Anderson, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, to Amir H. Hirsa, Professor of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering and to Patrick T. Underhill, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
 
The Education Innovation Awards were presented by Matt Oehlschlaeger, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to Johnson Samuel, Professor of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering and Thomas C. Sharkey, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
 
The Research Excellence Awards were presented by Tarek Abdoun, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research, to Qun Leo Wan, Profssor of Biomedical Engineering, Assad A. Oberai, Professor of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering, and Joel L. Plawsky, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
 
The Outstanding Professor Award was presented by Dean Garde to Steven M. Cramer, William Weightman Walker Professor of Chemical Engineering.
 
Highlights from Dean Garde’s remarks included recognition of Professor Lester Gerhardt, Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering on his retirement from Rensselaer and congratulations to the engineering faculty who were recognized a week earlier at the Institute awards dinner: Biomedical Engineering Professor Guohao Dai, for the James M. Tien ’66 Early Career Award for Faculty; Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering Professor Zvi Rusak, for the Jerome Fischbach Faculty Travel Award; and Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering Professor Sandipan Mishra, for the Class of 1951 Outstanding Teaching Award.
 
Special recognition of Professor Bimal Malaviya’s 50 year anniversary mark in service at the Institute was also given.
